I completed my BA at Wellesley College and my PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center. Children of the Raven and the Whale: Visions and Revisions in American Literature (University of Virginia, 2019) is my second book. Domesticity and Design in American Women’s Lives and Literature: Stowe, Alcott, Cather, and Wharton Writing Home (Routledge, 2011) was my first. As a Fulbright Scholar in American Literature at the University of Antwerp, I taught graduate and undergraduate courses on space and place. At home in New York, I was Professor of English at City Tech, CUNY, prior to my current work as Interim Special Assistant to the President. At the University level, I have advocated for developmental education reform, and cofounded the CUNY Writing Discipline Council. A 2021-2022 CUNY Leadership Institute Fellow, I have long been interested in public higher education policy, with particular focus on issues of access and equity. I have written for and about CUNY’s venerable students for the Daily News and Chronicle of Higher Education.
